Maths Mixer for Primary Parents at TISA

This week we had a wonderful turnout of parents joining us on a collaborative journey in mathematics at TISA! We are very grateful to them for their support and to teachers who opened classrooms and dialogues to further this partnership. The purpose was to boost understanding of the new AERO mathematics standards and the conceptual way we teach Mathematics. Teaching conceptually means focusing on understanding the why behind mathematical operations and ideas, not just the how.
We started with a Maths Mixer, where parents participated in fun, interactive engagements alongside their children, gaining insight into what maths looks like across the primary from preschool to Grade 5.Afterwards parents participated in a dynamic maths workshop, led by our PYP Coordinators Hannah Walker and Heather Rich. They explored the teaching and learning shifts of AERO standards, how conceptual understandings are built in maths classes, and techniques to foster a positive maths mindset and encourage problem-solving skills. With changing expectations in mathematical education, it’s crucial that everyone is on the same page.
We are looking forward to families our young mathematicians!
